Roofs here deal with an unusual mix: lake-effect humidity, strong winds off the lake, summer UV that is more intense than most of the valley, and the same winter freeze-thaw everyone else sees. Cabins in Woods Bay and homes along Swan River tend to see extra weathering on the lake-facing slopes.
The two systems we install most:
We also handle roof repair, full replacement, new construction roofing, and seasonal inspections. Storm damage and insurance claim work is routine.
The commercial core here is small but busy: restaurants, galleries, boutique hotels, and lakeside lodges. We install and maintain:
We work around summer tourist traffic, stage materials away from customer entrances, and send daily photo updates.
We are a Malarkey Certified Contractor, which unlocks enhanced manufacturer warranties on the shingles we install. For seasonal owners, we run the whole project remotely with daily photos, scheduled calls, and electronic billing. Read local feedback on our reviews page.
Bigfork sits at about 2,907 feet on the north end of Flathead Lake. Snowfall in town is less than Columbia Falls or Whitefish, but wind and humidity off the lake are a bigger factor. Lakeside homes see accelerated wear on shingle granules on the south and west exposures. Homes up Swan Hill Road and Ferndale can see heavier snow and wildfire risk from the Jewel Basin and Swan Valley direction. We account for all of that in material and flashing recommendations.
We pull permits through Flathead County and work with lakefront setback and septic rules where applicable.
Along the rest of the lake we also cover Lakeside on the west shore and Polson at the south end. Our home base is Kalispell.

How long do roofs last on the lake?
Asphalt shingle roofs go 20 to 25 years across most of Bigfork. On lake-facing slopes from Eagle Bend down through Woods Bay you see the bottom of that range hold up because of UV reflection off the water and humidity. Malarkey impact-rated shingles run 25 to 30. Standing seam metal lasts 40 to 50-plus years even on the first row off the lake.

What is the best roof for a lakefront home?
Standing seam metal. It resists the UV and humidity wear you get on lake-facing roofs, sheds snow well, and carries a Class A fire rating. Malarkey architectural shingles are a strong second choice if a traditional look matters.

Can you do a project while I'm out of town?
Yes. Many of our clients here own second homes or rentals. We document every step with photos, send daily updates, and handle billing electronically.

Do you handle insurance claims for wind or hail damage?
Yes. We document the damage, meet your adjuster on the roof, and complete the approved scope so most homeowners only pay their deductible.
